HTC Dream - Googlephone

HTC Dream - Googlephone

T-Mobile has sent out invitations for the official announcement of the first Googlephone, the HTC Dream.
The press conference will be on 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23 in New York. It seems like the Android-based phone will be in shops in October.

The invitation goes like this:

You are invited to attend a press conference to witness the official unveiling of the first Android-powered phone from T-Mobile. The event will include presentations from T-Mobile,Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and other company executives and an opportunity for you to get hands-on with the phone during a live product demonstration following the speaking portion of the event.

The phone, made by HTC, has generated a big buzz because it will be the first to use Google’s Android software, which is supposed to make it easier and more enticing to surf the Internet on a handset.

“We want to create a whole new mobile experience for users who want the same applications on the phone as they use on the internet,” said Eric Schmidt, Google’s chief executive, on the day the Android project was announced.

Will Android change the mobile landscape as much as iPhone did, and if so, how will iPhone suffer — or benefit — because of it?

Third-largest mobile phone company, MegaFon, announced Tuesday that they will start to sell iPhone 3G later this year.

Vimpelcom also announced in a statement on Aug 28, that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring iPhone 3G to Russia, expected later this year.

According to AP, many Russians get them for considerably less by asking friends to buy them while on trips abroad, then paying another $100 to unlock the phones, so that they can use them in Russia. With an estimated 500,000 earlier generation devices already in use, Russia is one of the biggest markets for iPhones outside the United States.

Apple chief Steve Jobs had previously said he hoped to land deals with both Russian and Chinese carriers before the end of 2008.
