Today I was moved to the buffet again. I’m not working in the room-service anymore. Here I have more time to spend with the passengers, to talk with them and to learn more about cultural differences, and this is an easy path to promotion.

Today for example, I meet few interesting people. Because of my name (Ionut in Romanian spelling and Yonootz in English spelling), many people stop me by to ask me how do I pronounce my name. Those guys were very interested about Romanian spelling. One of the ladies from that table has a sister in DC who’s from Romania (what a small world), and another guy used to live in Slovakia, so… they knew a little bit how to pronounce Romanian words. We spent few minutes together. The cruise just started, so… we will have plenty of time to talk about Romania and Romanian pronountion.
Last cruise I’ve meet a very nice couple. We had an interesting chat about the differences between Romanians and Americans, and we shared opinions about Romanian economy and our future integration in European Union. At the end of our conversation, they give me a pen personalized with their names on it (Don, Carol W., thank you again). What a nice feeling, to get something from someone that you just meet. What I’ve learned from my experience (not too wide) here onboard meeting all kind of people from all around the world, is that Americans are friendly people. I start to like America and Americans.
God bless all of us.
